I'm using one from the generation before for network-backups.

It's been very reliable. Setup was a breeze. A few minor criticisms about some of the features (email alerts require an open relay), but overall it's been a very positive experience.

'No idea if the multimedia streaming features of the new model are any good.

I've had the 500GB version of this drive for a few weeks. I'm using it as a media server currently, streaming through my XBMC. Set up was very easy for this purpose. I bought it for $86 refurbished from eCost.com.

I like it. At that price it's a bit pricey. My eCost drive was affordable. Works perfect so far.
