I have a late 2006 MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz, running 10.6
Besides the internal Superdrive the MBP has, I also have it plugged into an external DVD burner, so I can use two drives at once when mastering discs.
HOWEVER...
My OWC external FW Pioneer DVD burner isn't automatically recognized since the Snow Leopard install. I'm not the only user with external DVD drive problems since the install, here's an Apple discussion about it...
Oddly, it shows up in System Profiler, under Firewire, as a
OWC Mercury Removable:

Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec

...but it doesn't show up in System Profiler Disc Burning at all.
And won't mount discs.
I've checked cables, connections, FW ports, etc., all the hardware is good. For a brief time, I had it working, right after a reboot, but it's mostly been invisible, except recognizing it as an "OWC Removable" in the FW chain, my MacBook Pro doesn't see it's a disc burning device. Toast doesn't see it at all. No application can see or access the external FW DVD drive.
Anyone else have this issue?
UPDATE:
I followed the advice here for a recommended workaround. I simply unplugged it from the Firewire port, and instead, plugged the external drive in via the USB 2.0 port. While it doesn't connect under Firewire, it does connect successfully via USB. Not a solution to the FW problem, but it does make the Pioneer drive usable again.
