Assuming recent Mac OS (you didn't mention your OS version):
Apple --> System Preferences --> CDs & DVDs (should be first item on the second column) You can then select what you want done when you insert a video DVD (or any other optical media, for that matter).

Change this behavior in the Mac OS X System Preferences.
The relevant preference pane is "CDs & DVDs".

System Preferences > CDs and DVDs

System Preferences => CDs & DVDs /"When you insert a Video DVD"/ - select "Ignore" from the drop-down menu.

...and if none of the above 'stick'...
You can use 'Property List Editor' {Apple Developer Tools} or TextEdit to get into the DVD Player's prefs. /Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist set {boolean values}: AutoPlay = NO AutoPlayOnDiscMount = NO Save file, fix permissions. |
