Sounds like it is way outside the bounds of what is legal, certainly ethical. Once can only imagine the lawyers bills that are being churned out as we type.

If they'd had "Live At The Hollywood Bowl", then that would be something. Guess that one will never be re-released on CD.

Their explanation of why copyrighted works are not copyrighted simply because they are streaming them along with some video content is absurd in the extreme. These guys must think that getting the pants sued off of them is a new sport (or perhaps performance art).

so these guys are going to milk this thing until actual visual artists can never use any pre-recorded sound ever again- unless you have ka-billions of dollars- as if it hasn't been incredibly difficult enough already for artists who aren't enormous for-profit companies to license work they would like to use. many people who would pay some reasonable fee must instead pretend that the music that effects our lives doesn't exist like a blind spot in art, since no artist could reasonably afford to get permission being that there's always too many zeroes involved. now the clamp down may just choke everybody -think about it.

its like a big example of one guy making a few bucks for a minute and ruining it for everybody forever, since they are bound to close up this gap somehow.

goodbye watching videos of your fave artists on you tube (the place i go to hear/discover something before i buy it), etc...

And recording a performance of a musician or a performance will become un-uploadable - since getting to do it now means you won't be able when they close this gap.
i am sure i cant even think of all the things this will destroy, but as a visual artist who has seen poignant re-workings of sound with video in an age where appropriation can be a vital part of expression (not a product for sale) i feel rather tense about it.

25ยข now, a lifetime of loss later. this is going to be messy.

This is funny too. They sent cease and desist letters to Microsoft, Adobe, Real, and Apple claiming that these four companies should use their DRM technology with streaming video and audio. One of the comments nailed it when the writer noted that in order to have standing to sue somebody, you must have been wronged.
