UPS is ramping up for the holidays
#1
Looks like UPS is starting to ramp up its distribution system for the holidays. I have a few packages that are showing up a few days earlier than they should be. Usually UPS is usually right on time for me, but never ever early. Probably trying to move as much through as fast as they can to prevent a buildup later on in the month.

Yeah, I had an order revised down from tomorrow to today. I just placed the order online on Thanksgiving, so not too bad.

"UPS, for example, is looking to hire about 650 part-time workers to help with the season's shipping rush at its global air hub at Louisville International Airport, spokesman Mike Mangeot said."

From a Courier-Journal article earlier this fall.

Haven't seen a recent report.

All employees UPS hires to handle packages (except drivers) are part-time. Been that way for a long time now, starting in the early '80s. I imagine all the full-time package handlers I knew during the eight years I worked there are all retired now.

UPS started ramping up for Christmas months ago.

I'm still awaiting the arrival of a package sent last Wednesday by UPS ground. It was sent from Pennsylvania to Washington, DC. I could have gone to PA and driven it down to DC in a couple of hours. They had it scheduled for delivery today.

Tracking showed that the package journeyed from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, Kentucky, Ohio and then down to Richmond, VA whereupon the delivery date became "rescheduled" and all tracking data disappeared from their site.

Something like this happens with just about every 3rd package I get or ship via UPS ground.

OTOH, UPS 2-day is pretty reliable... 'tho less entertaining.
