Best Way to Sell Lenses ?
#1
Any of you have a good way to sell unneeded lenses (and, perhaps, film camera bodies) ? I've got some older Nikkor glass and Nikon and Canon film bodies I won't need once I go digital. The idea of getting some money for them, and getting them into someone's hands so they can be useful again, is rather attractive.

They were my late father's setup, and he cherished them (and used the heck out of them taking scads of Ektachrome for his classes and for his nature photography hobby). As it is, they're gonna fall into obscurity and get sold at an estate sale when I die.

I did call Adorama, and they sent me a UPS label to mail them the equipment so they can make an offer. Anyone do this ? FWIW, I'm in NE Ohio, not exactly the art photography capitol of the world, or even the state.

Don't have experience with selling through Adorama but I've sold stuff via Craigslist with good success. I would also suggest checking out Fred Miranda's forums, it has a pretty active for buy and sell forum if you want to avoid ebay and/or craigslist:

Ritz Camera will make offers on your used equipment as well. They have a sub-site for it- http://www.cameratradein.com/

You have to create a free account (username / pass) and then you can pick from a list to tell them what you have and the condition. Instant online quote.

SLR film bodies seem to be almost worthless to them, and lenses could fetch a higher price on eBay, but it may be an option for you.

EDIT:

I have some Minolta lenses that I will either be selling or keeping for use with a new Sony DSLR but have not come to a decision on that yet. The highest prices I have seen for the lenses are on Craigslist, but many more listings on eBay.

I'll PM the interested parties once I get all the right specs off the lenses. My familiarity with them is based on just using them as a teenager (30+ years ago), when I was threatened with DEATH if I hurt them.

And yes, I learned the 'trick' of catching the camera with your foot on Dad's ancient Nikon F. Yeah, I dropped it, but the busted toe was worth not getting kilt when I got home.

Besides, those Nikon F's are tanks.

And thanks for all the good advice !

I 2nd Fred Miranda. There is a $25/year fee to sell, so weather that is better than feeBay depends on how much you have. Nikkor glass sometimes sells there in a few hours or less, but of course it depends exactly what it is. Film bodies...not exactly sure, but overall worth very little.
