Apple Store lost > $450M to pirated apps ? Huh ?

that "article" was just cr@p - the statistics weren't accurate. Further on down the article they mention Apple lost 140 million as they get a 30% cut of what is sold on the Apps store. Hmm

yes, yes there is. I watch my GF's kid load up his iPod with all his friend's CDs all the time.

I think the number one reason most iphones are jailbroken is to use them with a carrier besides AT&T.

That would be unlocking the 'Phone. Do you have to jailbreak it to unlock it or are they separate processes?

And the piracy impetus just isn't there when an app costs $1.99. It ain't worth the trouble, and the risk of bricking your hardware.

Not true.

True.

That's also coupled with a very common "If I can get it without paying for it, I deserve it" belief.

There are a lot of programs available for a jailbroken phone which are not available via the app store. A lot of programs. While it's not something I'd likely do, it does allow a great deal more customizing of the phone.

Then there's that.

There are various reasons an app may not be available at the App Store. Chief among them would be violating Apple's standards or at&t's sensibilities.

I'm not sure how I feel about all that, but I don't see that as pirating. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's the same thing.

Or Apple's sensibilities and AT&T's standards.
