'secret WARS?!'....he was the 1st choice for 'Captain America' but new player has entered...
#1
...john Krasinki ('The Office') was 1st choice - he even made 2 screen tests but now Ryan Phillippe has entered the fray.....

previous report:

'Captain America': John Krasinski reportedly the 'first choice'

All eyes are on "Captain America: The First Avenger," which is the last lynchpin in the ongoing road to "The Avengers," and casting rumors are flying. Cinematical first broke the news that John Krasinski was the top choice for the role, and since then, we've seen the full list of names in consideration leak via Michael Fleming.

Now word is that Krasinski has tested twice and that Marvel Studios is pretty much sold on him playing the part. And, predictably, fanboys are already gnashing their teeth and angrily posting messages in all caps with several exclamation points afterwards.

REPORTED as of today that Ryan is being considered:

'Captain America': Add Ryan Phillippe to the contenders list

The never-ending casting call for the title character in "Captain America" continues. Ryan Phillippe is the latest Hollywood leading man to be considered for the pivotal role in the Marvel Studios movie universe.

Phillippe ("Stop-Loss," "Flags of Our Fathers" ) joins what has become a laundry list of actors to screen test for the role, including Mike Vogel ("She's Out of My League" ), Garret Hedlund ("Tron Legacy" ), Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four" ) and Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl" ).

Another leading contender, "The Office's" John Krasinski, reportedly shot a screen test with a number of other Marvel Universe actors. This continued activity may mean the studio hasn't found what it's been looking for yet or is just doing additional due diligence.

I'm pretty sure that I read that Chris Evans had been picked over John Krasinski as of last Thursday.

'Don't recall where I read it, tho.

John Krasinski, would be an embarrassing captain america.

Unless you are going for a comedy and even then he would still suck.

Neither one of those guys would make my list for the role.

I heard Chris Evans too. He'd be better than those 2. But he's got Johnny Storm going against him.

I'm not sure I even get what Newton's pun is supposed to be for this one, but I gotta give her props for the Secret Wars reference - even if it was completely unintentional.
