Saving Youtube videos
#1
Previously I would use either keepvid.com or kickyoutube to save Youtube videos, however neither appears to be working now. I can still use the activity window, but that always gets me the flv, I would prefer the mp4 so I can enjoy it on my ipod.

Any ideas?

Install Click to Flash It'll give you the option of viewing the non-Flash version in Safari.

You'll be able to save the mp4 from the Activity window the same way as .flv but you won't see (unless something's changed) an mp4 filename per se.

Be aware that when YouTube changed the layout last week, loading the "H.264" version (I wish the C-T-F people would call it MP4 instead …) causes the layout to blow out once you move your mouse around. Specifically, the thumbnails zap to the left.

1-click

The new youtube layout broke most of the downloaders. This one seems to work for most people.

Real Player has a plugin (at least for Firefox) to save videos, but it seems to choke frequently on the 720p/mp4 version.

The new QuickTime can record your screen using onboard Mic and Speakers. If you want it direct you can get soundflower and set it in sound preferences.

Downloadhelper seems to still be working, it is a plugin for Firefox.
