Try checking with appliance repair shops to see if they could find you a used one.
A milk crate also sounds like a pretty good substitute. If it's plastic you'd want one of a type that wouldn't shatter easily at freezing temperatures. I'd think a (true) milk crate would be good for that.
Good luck.

If you really want to complicate it... buy some Delrin or other thermoplastic rod;

A heat gun from Harbor Freight, and some adhesive (or just use stainless steel wire to join them) and make your OWN basket that fits.
Probably more trouble that it's worth though.
Hmm... come to think of it, you could also use fiberglass and epoxy to make your own baskets.
ALSO probably more trouble that it's worth...

I'll second the basket from a home store or container store..., but, buy a can of industrial strength spray paint or coating to withstand the rigors of the environment and keep the OEM paint from flaking off. Oh, and use the paint/coating on the basket after buying them BTW.

Some good ideas here as usual. Mr. Johnson, you may have found a winner in the 8210434 substitutes.
The only critical dimension here is the reach across the freezer from front to back lip that the basket hangs from. I'll measure it again but it's in the range of 17.5" to 18"
(AlphaDog, that one may work if I get one for down below, but what I'm looking for today is one that hangs on the freezer's surrounding lip, like the original. That may also be why others suggested getting one not likely to crack when frozen, since more pressure will be put on where it rests on the lip.)
I also emailed APWagner's U.S. site because their Canadian site lists the original basket for $15 CND, and not at all on the U.S. site . I'll see first if they can sell it to me.

Load up one of the small plastic baskets and just don't return it.
