Found a dog - what to do
#11
We brought a stray beagle home many years ago in hopes of finding its owners. Turns out it found its owners on its own, us. We had her for about ten years.

flyers are good at the local GROCERY or convenience store or wherever they are allowed.

also a big sign by the curb or on lawn or on a phone pole (depends on the urbanity of your area) saying "FOUND: BROWN DOG (212) 555-1212" in big letters helps so that drivers see it as they go by.

the humane society will keep it 10 days and then i think they can euthanize it

IF even. Some only have the obligation to keep it for 24 hours. I have heard others even less these days.

Many vets can check a "chip" pet, call around.

And, you might be able to feel the "chip" underneath the skin around the shoulder blade/neck area.
