Sounds like the engine of an old VW

That is what my 87 Honda Accord hatchback sounds like when accelerated. Will be bringing it to our fav mechanic this Sat. Until then, I am letting the car 'experts' here take an educated guess. So what do y'all say?

pardon for my ignorance on complex car repairs, but what causes that issue, and wouldn't that make my car not drivable? We drove the car from San Bernandino Valley to San Diego over the weekend.

Not enough experience with a Honda using a carb. Are you saying it runs rough or you have exhaust pulse?

No odd sounds coming from the engine. No exhaust pulse either.

I'd say that anything that old that is not a classic car (and Honda is NOT) should be replaced with something newer.
