Well, stop by and visit; I'm not far from the VA hospital! I'm in that part of Lakewood closer to the big houses and lovely gardens that you pass when you get off the freeway, although note I said "closer", not in one of those big houses.
In this case, the crime scene is, literally, just a matter of the width of two lanes of traffic outside the city limits. In a way I suppose that's just as well, because it means the county sheriff is the lead agency in the investigation. A few weeks ago some people had been critical of the Seattle Police Department when they were in charge of the investigation into the murder of one of their officers. There's no question in this case.
Also keep in mind that many cities have the same two faces, just like Lakewood. The difference here is that the extremes are within such close proximity to each other, because it's a pretty small geographic area.
Oh, and I think part of the reason Lakewood quit participating in Cops is because it used to be patrolled by the county sheriff, and that was the agency with the contract with the show. If I remember right, Lakewood decided not to negotiate a contract when they formed their own police department five years ago.

Unbelievable. My heart aches for their families and the communities they served.
Can only hope that justice is swift.

If there is justice, it won't make it to a trial.

That is awful. The tragic Oakland shooting deaths of four cops had a huge impact on the community who (except for the scumbags) rallied behind the police department.

sad, very very sad.
These crimes don't happen all that often in other countries with tighter gun control laws. But that's a topic for the other forum.

This investigation has been going on all day, as you can imagine. If the person the police are now trying to find, and who they are terming to be a "person of interest" and not a suspect, is found to be the shooter, then there are bigger problems to be dealt with than gun control. Here's a snippet out of an article that I'll link.
" Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.
Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protestations of prosecutors.
"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.
Clemmons' criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed."

By the way, the original $10,000 reward is now in excess of $100,000. I bet the shooter - no matter who it is - doesn't have any friends who wouldn't be willing to sell him out very quickly for that amount of money. Let's hope so anyway.

Awful news.
Unlike some others, I hope he is captured alive, tried and convicted. I'm confident he will be. It seems that many of the perpetrators of these kinds of horrible crimes would just as soon die as be caught. I would prefer to see this perpetrator NOT get what he wants.
Were they all head-shots? It said they were all wearing vests. Didn't café staff have anything to offer?
Jimmypoo, unless you are the coroner, or unlessyou are an investigator, why on earth would that matter to you besides satisfying some sort of morbid curiosity? And what kind of gory details do you want the café staff to offer?

I hope this doesn't upset anyone or move this thread to the other side, but do some research on this man:
He granted clemency to the (alleged) killer, along with other murderers and convicts for who-knows-what reasons. Another man, a convicted rapist Huckabee pardoned, later killed a woman. We in Arkansas were incredulous that Huckabee did this.
Yes, the killer is the guilty one, but Huckabee must share in the guilt. People go to prison for life for accessory to a crime.
(This is not meant to be political. I know the man and I don't like him. This is what he is capable of.)
This is from The Seattle Times:
"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings..."
There is probably a lot about it here, although I can't get it to load:

I had posted a link to Mike Huckabee regarding this. I guess it was pulled. It was NOT political. I believe Mike Huckebee shares guilt in this because he granted the suspect clemency for his own personal reasons. In addition to this clemency, he let a convicted rapist from jail who went on to murder a woman. So, whoever pulled the trigger is guilty, as is Mike Huckabee.
