I understand that more details sometimes takes the fun out of these discussions, but I found the article I read yesterday that went into more detail. The guy did a video about the Evo, too.
Below is a quote from the more detailed article, and I'm also adding a link to the whole thing. This same guy has done other videos in which BB was mentioned and in which he made fun of customers. I'm sure there are some funny lines, and I'm sure there are some people who would consider all of his efforts funny. I'm just not convinced that if he was working for me I'd consider him an asset to my company, although I am old and grumpy.
"Best Buy spokesman Justin Barber said in an e-mail Friday that the company was still deciding how to proceed with Maupin, whom he called an "aspiring filmmaker."
"This is an important situation for us because it involves balancing our social media guidelines with a commitment to creating a supportive environment for our employees," Barber said. "That's why our investigation into this matter will take some time before it's concluded, and why we look forward to seeing Brian back on the job come Monday."

yes, I just LOVE foul mouthed humor
"it has more Gs than the iPhone"
yes, there ARE people like that out there and as a BB salesman, this guy would certainly know.

I remember when it was cool and de rigueur to do so, for some it still is. Unfortunately, often it was/is not about accomplishing constructive change but merely an excuse for different behavior. Affectation is so boring.
This is not a kid I'd want working for me in any of my endeavors. If he's dismissed by BB he should be grateful.
He should kiss the corporate asses that can free him from being The Man's lackey and holding him back from becoming the next Bevis n Butthead sensation.
Foul mouthed = humor. Now there's an original idea. (Been done before, once or twice, and a lot better.)
If they fire him, win-win-win. I don't see him being an asset to BB. If there were no link to him and his animations, that would be a different story. But bite the hand that feeds you, even a little, and be prepared for The Man to Buck back.
And really, Man Up. Grow a pair. Don't whine when you step out of line and The Man comes takes you away.

Did you watch either of the videos?
While there's some foul language in both, they also demonstrate a very good understanding of the features and limitations of the devices.
I've never encountered a BB employee who actually knew anything of any significance about the products s/he was supposed to be selling. This guy's remarkable if only for that.
Maybe you're right that he shouldn't be working at BB. People with measurable IQs don't belong in the same pen with the stupids.

Pretty impressive that so much opionizing can come of a story that has very little actual gray area.
But it really depends on whether and how he identified himself as a Best Buy employee, and whether and how the written policy on publicly identifying one's-self as an agent of the corporation is spelled out, and whether the employee violated those terms.

Indeed I did. Did you read hal's post?

That's a big "Uh, so?"

You must be new here. This is a forum; that happens a lot.

So you've apparently missed the substance of my previous posts in this thread.
Short attention span?

In my practice/life the people I encountered and surrounded myself with "bucked the man" because our beliefs were and are couched in a way of life consistent with being a part of a cultural revolution. ie;
recycling, being part of real conservation efforts, opposing pollution, getting back to the land, not being dominated by monied people and big business, deeper stuff than just being "cool". We were the "Mother Earth News, "The Whole Earth Catalog. Perhaps you were "often" surrounded by other people *(:>*
Today we are able to see constructive changes because some people were "the spearhead of a cultural revolution"
I hope the BB employee is not fired...
