OT: Need Online Retailer - Black Diamond
#1
Hi all,

Was hoping to skip having to search through all of the online dealers for Black Diamond. I am looking for the best price on a full set (all 10) of Camalots (think EMS is the best at this point) and the Stopper Set Pro.

I think EMS has the best pricing at the moment but any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I even did a google search and found an Amazon listing and still have no idea what this item is.

Even the product description was about as cryptic as your post. (sounds kind of kinky... fingers, fists, greasy finger stack, passive protection when nothing else is available).

Incredible expansion range and low weight make the Black Diamond Camalot C4 Package a perfect way to start off any trad rack or beef up an old one. These seven cams (size 0.3-3) cover all the bases from fingers to fists. Their thumbhole loop, wide trigger, and large expansion make the Camalot C4s easy to place when you need to fire in gear from a greasy finger stack. Their double-axle design also allows them to be placed as passive protection when nothing else is available. Rack your nice new cams right next to your trusty Stoppers. You'll be happy that you have them in about 40 feet.

I've done very little rock climbing (free soloing twice only) so this stuff is pretty mysterious to me too. It's a Xmas present for one of my sisters.

This thread is already in the top 10 searches for [ black diamond camalot ems ]

I have not bought stuff like that in years. What you buy kind of depends on where and what you climb. The more varied climbing you do, the more stuff you end up owning. The guy who got me started would plan on what to bring on each route based on the guides, sometimes have 3 or 4 of a specific size.

I did not find many sets of 10. 3, 5, 6, 7 were common. Found this via Bizrate via Google.

Google [ "black diamond" c4 full set ]
mtntools.com had a listing of a "full set" for $668 but it leads to a 404 page. http://www.mtntools.com/cat/rclimb/cams/...lotset.htm

Black Diamond online partner, 10 cams ends up $760 but I am not sure the 5-or-more discount got factored in. They also imply there are coupons. Maybe sign up to get a newsletter and get coupons?

IronMac-

Caution ! Technical equipment is VERY personal. Like... potentially fatally so.

I would counsel a gift card, unless she's given you specific instructions on what she wants.

(Disclaimer.. I've never done technical. Free climbed, sure. Didn't need no stinking ropes....)

She'd already indicated that she wants this stuff but thanks for the reminder. Smile

1) Camalots rarely get discounted
2) your best bet is a % off sale at REI, but you'd have to wait for said sale. They often have 20% one item, but I don't see they sell them as a set so I guess you'd just get 20% off one. Not very useful
3) Sierra Trading Post and Backcountry.com sometimes have clearance, discounts etc, but again don't count on Camalots being there
4) If you have to pay MSRP, which is likely, EMS and REI have 100% satisfaction return policies and thus are better than most any other retailer.
5) Holy Huge Gift Batman! I wish I had someone to buy me a set of 10 cams.

1) Rats.
2) EMS has a good deal going on with items at so and so percent off at the moment...
3) Rats.
4) Yeah, REI is good on that.
5) Not yet! I had no idea how expensive 10 cams were. The stoppers are no big deal but for the whole camalot set I would have to enlist my other siblings to pay for them.

Thanks!
