I tend to agree with Dennis. I just have a basic issue with stings in general. Despite the good they may do in this particular area, too often that will be used as justification for something else. What is going to stop some zealot from using similar tactics for any of a host of other perceived causes. It's the whole slippery slope issue for me.

I know it may not be popular, particularly since this direct issue deals with child predators but I just see too much chance at even further erosions of our liberties in general.

I always wondered if he'd die on camera.

They never screened the guys coming in with large bags - one could have just as easily held a gun instead of beer and condoms.

One guy who drove by multiple times (but never stopped and went in) was arrested with his entire arsenal in his vehicle.

I read a while back that at least some of his "stings" were not helpful, in that they didn't provide a legal basis for prosecution (not something you'd hear about from Chris Hansen, of course). In one case, a man who'd engaged in chat but didn't actually show up at a sting location (and might never have done so) committed suicide.

I'm not sorry to see Hansen caught on tape. I don't object to the stings per se, but you get the distinct impression that they are a huge ego trip for Hansen.

A comment on something that comes up (as it were) repeatedly on that show and in the news: what on earth makes SO many men think that pictures of their little packages are going to make people swoon with desire?

Ombiglio pretty much said it. For me, it's just a gut feeling. Maybe stings might be OK, although I sometimes have a problem with some stings. But to do it basically so NBC can make a few bucks is wrong. And think of all the grief it causes the families of these guys. Two wrongs...
