A local tv station displayed my picture this morning and pronounced me their "Facebook friend of the day." While some may find that fun I was not amused to have my picture and name used on tv without my prior knowledge or permission. I'm not a criminal I'm just some random person they picked. I assume this is legal?

I agree with you. Too many nutty people around. I would think they would need permission but I'm not a lawyer.

I don't use facebook and won't pretent to understand how it works. But are you a "friend" of the station? If they have access to your picture in facebook, they may have the ability to display that; whether this is republishing or not would be a tougher question.

You should set your profile to now not show your pic to everyone.

Did you sign a release ? If no, then a "Do Not Like" message to them may be appropriate.

Um, congratulations?
Check the station's facebook page, where you friended them. They might have some fine print that says you consent to let them use your profile picture and name.

At least you aren't featured in the post office, or on a milk carton.

I provided photos and video to a TV show a few days ago and had to sign and fax back a waiver for them to be used on the air.
This raises a question I've been pondering . . . does your employer have the right to post your image with your full name on the internet?

It's really funny how the local morning "News" shows on television have the talking heads reading and talking about email from watchers of the show.
