Ordering a new tripod: Black or titanium finish?
#1
I'm leaning towards black but am wondering which one will look best after a few years of use.

Is the black durable or does it scratch easily? Anything else to consider?

Depends on the tripod. What is your budget? They can run from $20 for a generic model to well north of $1000 for a Gitzo.

I've decided on this one: Slik 700DX Pro.

It has good reviews, is tall and fits my budget. I'm getting the legs only, without a head. I'll probably be using it equally indoors and out, and won't be doing any long hikes with it.

If you get a good enough tripod.... you won't have a choice of colors. :-)

Fry's usually has a killer weekly deal on a decent tripod.
This weeks is a Vanguard for $80...
Vanguard at Fry's

cheapest by $45, or more... most places are $170.
You can go aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber, basalt, etc.
Twist lock, or flip lock legs.
Also consider a monopod... more info on anticipated usage, and camera gear would be real helpful.

I would def not be too worried about how my tripod looks after using, but as someone else said, it's hard to have a choice if you make your decision on the basis of features.

the Gitzo we have looks the same after 20 years. the Bogen/Manfrotto looks about the same as new, too.

I prefer titanium finishes because it doesn't show dirt as easily as black. And because everything in Cleveland is grey from around October 1st until.. May.

I like my Dolica. It was a Christmas gift and the feel and features are quite nice for the money.

I have the Slik 700DX Pro. Really sturdy and well made for the price, but it is heavy. If you want something lighter it'll have to be a carbon fiber job and those run a lot more. Look at Feisol. Good quality and reasonably priced for Carbon fiber. I have their monopod.
