"
WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration is requiring makers of Ambien and similar sleeping pills to lower the dosage of their drugs, based on studies suggesting patients face a higher risk of injury due to morning drowsiness."

Aaargh. Mrs. cbelt3's RA pain keeps her awake most nights. A dose of various sleep aids helps. She knows the theraputic levels she needs. The FDA, and of course our damn insurance company, will now insist she takes a less effective dose ?

Maybe a switch to Haldol or Ketamine is in order ? Good thing the fingerprint biometric safe I ordered for her for her pain medications arrives today. (Visiting teens have stolen some of her pain meds in the past.)

For women only, for men it will only be a recommendation.

They just released "Intermezzo" which is a lower dose version of Ambien (zolpidem). I was wondering why after I saw the commercial yesterday.

I had a terrible experience with Ambien. Like LSD. It is a wonder I didn't have a concussion from my fall on a marble floor ON MY HEAD. It was a nightmare.

Wow. Glad you're OK.
I think Ambien is great-I have a small stash for if I need it. But, I've always taken half a pill when I use it; my friend I got it from recommended half a pill to start and I never needed more. I sleep like the dead and don't remember dreaming and wake up refreshed. For that reason I can see why it could be abused but, again, I don't need it very often.
It definitely seems to affect women differently.

I've tried a sleep aid and felt MORE tired and dizzy the next day.

The only aid I need to sleep is a bed and a horizontal position...
