While I do understand your concern regarding these contraceptives, it's not like anything we can do as a government will stop 12 year olds from exploring their sexuality.

So are you saying that the consequence to their having had sex should be being forced to become pregnant? The unprotected sex is already happening (primarily in the bible belt, fueled by those asinine abstinence only programs). Having a Plan B pill available will have no effect on that whatsoever.

I have to agree to feeling a bit squeamish about a 12-year-old using Plan B without any idea whether she even knew there was a Plan A. But the only way I can see out of this is to have sexual education lose its stigma and become totally available to any student in any school regardless of how parents may feel about it.

Did anyone see the episode of Friends where Ross learned that a condom isn't 100% effective and he complained that that fact should be printed on the box? And the same for the other male characters? It was a funny schtick but the fact is, people use birth control all the time and DON'T read the box. That's the kind of thing we need to have our children aware of, even if it makes us feel creepy to have them knowing it. Because NOT knowing it doesn't mean they aren't going to have sex -- it just means that eventually (whether younger or older) when they do have sex, they are going to have sex in a state of complete ignorance.

It's a situation that I don't have to deal with, but if you parents of pubescent girls are happy with it then let your girls go for it. Just put the $50 in a cookie jar for them if they ever need it and sleep,well at night.

You don't have to deal with it but you're more than happy to tell others how they should have to deal with it. I say we send all those 13 year old moms over to your house to raise those babies.

I tried to teach my daughter that she should wait to have sex until she could bear the responsibilities of having done so. That said, I know there are a lot of girls, and not just in the Bible Belt, that may not have parents to teach them or even parents that are around at all. I would not condem a girl who had sex, at any age, to gettng pregnant, as punishment for not protecting herself. If she has parents that have not taught her about protecting herself, or for whatever reason, and she finds herself possibly pregnant, then she should be able to get the morning after pill.

If you parents of pubescent sons or daughters are happy with condoms being sold to anyone of any age then let your sons or daughters go for it. Just put a condom under their pillow for them if they ever need it and sleep well at night.
