Who bought Google Glass yesterday?

I've too much self respect to buy and/or wear it. Am totally in agreement with most comments above.

Christ almighty, I don't wear a watch or carry a phone. But three cheers for the intrepid glassholes! It's the Apple Newton of wearable technology, the ugly duckling.

because they never said how many of the $1,500 devices they planned to sell.

Possibly because these may not have been meant to become a commercial venture, but an R&D project.

I'm surprised (though by now I guess I shouldn't be) at the shallow stupidity and bare prejudice some of you display.

If it's not cowboy hats, Segways, it's iWatches and Google glasses and who know what that triggers your irritable bowel syndrome.

How is it that you are so screwed up that somebody doing something that doesn't appeal to you and really has no material effect on you gets your panties in a wad and your tampons all twisted sideways.

Geeeze, if the tech doesn't interest you, it doesn't. Why worry about it?

Now go chase the kids off your lawn.

Jury is still out on whether it will become socially invisible like a wrist watch, or inexplicably annoying like a bluetooth earpiece. Could go either way.

Remember when you had to get an "invite" to get a gmail account?

Hah!

Eventually Google will give these things away for next to nothing, just like Amazon basically gives it Kindles away for very little. They too were initially quite expensive...

The point of glass is to reset the conversation about what to do with mobile computing.

Look around and see all of the under 40 year olds walk. They are staring at smart phones.

Yes, because the distractedness and lack of attention span of the under-40 set is something we need to have more of.

Just imagine, now instead of staring at smart phones, and walking into cars, they'll be staring at you... but not really at you, because you're not important enough to distract them from whatever they're really looking at with their Glass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UjcqCx1Bvg

PeterB;

You of all people should understand the concept of 'survival of the fittest'. Those that can't pay attention to the world around them should be encouraged to become "street pizza" by stepping out in front of a moving truck, and leave the rest of us who CAN pay attention. Big Grin

Yes, I'm fully aware of the concept. It's just that it's gotten to the point that, in somewhere like NYC, it's practically impossible to drive *without* hitting someone, because everyone has their heads down engrossed in whatever they're doing on their smartphone. I'm reminded of this:
