So won an auction for an exhaust system for my '66 Volvo Amazon. Go to pay through ebay/paypal and get an error code - Error Code 70010 11068 - person can't currently accept payments. Told the seller and he sent an invoice via paypal - same problem. Then he said, you know what, just paypal direct to my email. He's been on ebay since march and has been selling off a few Amazon pieces, and hunting around the interwebs he appears to be in the Volvo restoration business... I guess I answered my own question and will do the paypal direct... but still seems odd.

It means he has a problem with his account. I guarantee you that the address he gives you is a different paypal account than the one that is tied to his ebay account. I'm not sure I would go ahead with the payment as you may not be covered by ebay/paypal protection.

If you don't pay through the eBay-related Paypal account you certainly won't be covered under beer protection. Tell him to staighten it out before you will pay.

Because beer protection is essential!

Amen to the beer protection.
Yes, something is likely up with his linked paypal accout, but the payment went through and the pieces appear to fit together - I think it'll turn out fine. If he's scamming me for $41 in exhaust bits, well, it is one way to make money, but probably not the fastest.
