Genius bar appointment tonight for my eldest son's MBP-Retina. The video problem is strong with this one... weird white lines occasionally, flickering, etc... This will be the second time through
Anyone take their MBP in for the video recall ?

I thought the video recall only applied to Early 2011 MBPs?

My Late 2011 17" MBP video went wonky two years ago. It was covered under AppleCare.

BTW: I brought a 2011 MBP in for service recently with a trackpad issue, and when they mentioned that replacing the trackpad was not a while-you-wait procedure because the logic board needs to be removed, I suggested that they should replace the logic board at the same time due to the Video repair extension.
They told me that they had to have proof of the failure symptoms in order to do it, so that NVidia would reimburse them. I pointed out that NVidia wasn't going to pay them a cent for this MBP model since it has an AMD GPU. They proceeded to "run their test" which consisted of looking at the Console log for Kernel Panic reports (I explained that the hard drive that was normally in this MBP had been removed and the current HD was installed the day before, so the console log is misleading). They also ran the Grapher application opening a number of windows with a slowly rotating image. And ran the "yes" command in a terminal window. Since it was running on battery, it was likely nor even using the AMD GPU during their test, reverting to the Intel GPU instead. Since this didn't cause a kernel panic within one minute they determined that it currently does not exhibit the video issue, and I would have to wait for it to fail. So, if you have a fairly reproducible problem, they'll likely be more willing to do the repair.

My son (at my prompting) took iphone videos of the screen going wonky. At this point it's pretty reproducible.

Just being a smartazz here, but Apple is due for another round of video card failures in their MBPs. 2007 and 2011-era machines had 'em. Now it's almost time for the 2015 machines to start showing failures.

I have the Early 2011 and had the logic board replaced because of video--out of Applecare--two weeks ago. They ran one diagnostic and agreed.
