new iMac=happy friend
#1
So my friend julia, 85 yrs old (maybe more—she aint sayin') and in a wheelchair—doesn't get out much— had a 2010 21.5 inch iMac I helped her buy back then. So this week she turned it on and got the black screen. I tried everything i knew with no luck. made a genius appointment at the Holyoke mall 30 miles away and he tried everything, and the conclusion was "it's dead, Jim." Needed a new board, $657 smackeroonies, and a new iMac is 1099.
Talked it over with julia the next day and helped her order a new 21.5, just the base model, for delivery to the store. She's a writer and really doesn't need more than that for the poetry and novels she's writing. She does look at movies and collect some videos and photos and iTunes but the new machine is way better than the old one so she'll be okay.
Took the old machine back to Holyoke so they could transfer the contents of her hard drive to the new one—and she hadn't got the stuff on her hard drive backed up!— and this morning got a call that it was ready for pickup.
Went and got the new computer, set it up for her‚ and attached an external for time machine backups!
I came home from the dance tonight and found this email:

love love love my new iMac!

Congratulations! I've helped several seniors make the switch over from "the dark side". Once they get settled, they're always happy.
