Mom Says Delta Asked Her to Leave First Class Seat Because Her 9-Month Old Baby Was Crying
#1
Yikes, nothing like flying with a small child, or in this case a baby.

The comments side with Delta, curious what you folks think:

I was a kid. I have kids. I understand. If I were flying first class or coach and a family with kids next to me had this problem, I would be just fine as long as the parents were considerate and made a reasonable effort to control their kids. You can't force a 9 mo old kid to sleep, but you can try. On the other hand if the kids were 4-5 and the parents were total a$$holes and did nothing while the kids made a lot of noise, I would be upset, no mater if first class or coach.

....yes, don't mind kids but what is annoying is when kids are misbehaving and the parents sit there doing nothing/saying nothing.....more annoyed with the parents.....

Tough, I have a young kid, but we have never flown with her. Probably won't unless we are forced to or she is old enough to control herself. If we did fly I'd be booking seats in the back of the plane where it is loudest and close to the bathrooms, no way would I consider first class. I'd consider myself to be selfish if I didn't do everything I could to not piss off an entire flight. I'm actually surprised there isn't a restriction on how young you can be in first class. Just like a black tie restaurant, no kids allowed. I'd be pissed off if I bought a first class ticket expecting exceptional service and an ice quiet relaxing flight and instead got to listen to a kid scream. I could have payed for coach if I wanted that.

On the other hand, apparently there is no policy about kids in first class. Wonder if there is a generic causing a ruckus or b not too loud type of blanket policy. A baby screaming is really no different than someone yelling at someone else or listening to loud music.

the effect on the environment may be similar but those are very different situations. intent is everything. and guess you feel the folks in coach deserve to put up with noise but not the more endowed flyers. interesting. (not really but i'm trying to keep this civil...)

What stands out to me in this case is that it occurred before takeoff. The mom walked with the kid before takeoff, so that means she was attentive and trying. And that's all I ask for.

The kid fell asleep on takeoff. That means the other passengers and crew were unreasonably impatient. That said, I don't fly Delta because of their bad service.

Wow - a lot of hateful, ignorant, entitled commentors. Parents with babies are just as entitled to fly in first class or coach as anyone else. I've been on planes with crying kids - yes it can be annoying. But the parents generally do their best and their flight is even worse than mine as a result of their unhappy kid.

A baby screaming is really no different than someone yelling at someone else or listening to loud music.
No, it's completely different. Babies lack the self control we expect from adults or older kids. And your idea to sit in back: do you really think that's practical? Suppose you parents couldn't book a seat in the back? Fat chance you'd just stay home or drive, as a lot of the idiot commentors on that article suggest.

Have a little patience!

The idea that the baby was bothering the first class passengers so they should take her back to bother the "regular" passengers offends me. It doesn't matter if people who can't afford first class get driven nuts by a crying baby?

I cannot stand crying babies and wish they could be stuck in the cargo hold, but come on, this is so freaking snobbish it is ridiculous.
