Apple today introduced a Pro Apps Bundle for Education that includes Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4, and MainStage 3 for $199.99. How do they verify the purchaser is a student? Could I have one of my kids buy this bundle for me and install it on my computer or is it tied to an apple id?

Yes, mainly video editing. Logic Pro is for sound editing, and MainStage is for live music performances.
