6 June 1944--"it will be the longest day"

"...the war will be won or lost on the beaches...the first 24 hours of the invasion will be decisive...it will be the longest day"
Attributed To German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel

Came across the United States Army Military Academy Glee Club version of the theme song (lyrics by Paul Anka) from the movie "The Longest Day".
From the You Tube description: "The three parts of this beautiful arrangement -- the first ever to portray musically what actually happened on those beaches that day -- recall the dogged unparalleled preparation, the 4,720 casualties of Omaha Beach and then the breakthrough. Eleven months later the war in Europe was over."

This video is interspersed with photos and film clips of the to represent each part. The photos and film clip of the last part is moving. The video description also tells you of the morse code the drums used at the beginning of the music.

To those who served during this time: well done, well done

Great book. The movie is a close second to the written words. All the content of the longest day is documented interviews from axis and allied servicemen.
