US iPhone users spent an average of $138 on apps in 2020

...up 38% from 2019.

Wow, I had no idea. None in my household spends that, so that means 5 users that are averaging like $30 (and most of that is from a single member of our household who spend $$ on in-app purchases on one favorite game). If that is universally true, I wonder if there are some paying hundreds/thousand dollars/year?

And here I thought I was wasteful for spending $5 on an app last year.

Maybe we should do an MRF poll to see where we sit on the '$138/year' spectrum.

Based on what I know about the people here (including myself), I'd guess that we're closer to $1.38/year.

Maybe they are including in app purchases for game perks and power ups.

I haven't bought an app in years.

All total it is not $138.00 and I bought the first iPhone. I payed to much and Steve gave me a Gift card.

Me, too! I purchased an iPad nano with that gift card, still turns on though I do not use it anymore.

Very true, just makes me wonder what 'normal' people spend money on the iOS app store? Is this almost all in-app purchases (as I noted, I have one example of that in my household, and they've decided it's how they want to spend some of their leisure money, so that's fine by me).

I do wonder if this includes some of the subscription services like Apple Music? We pay for all of our subscriptions directly to avoid any Apple App Store tax (15% or 30%). I do not think Apple should require such a tax for permission for an otherwise free app to be on my iPhone.

I have an “auto-renew” on the “ Night Sky” app. $9.99 + tax.
