Speaking of set up of Apple devices: treble and bass adjustments?

Is there anything - settings, apps, etc. - that will allow adjustments to the treble and bass levels of an iPhone’s sound output; music, video, phone?

Change the way music sounds on iPhone with EQ, volume limit settings, and Sound Check.
Choose an equalization (EQ) setting: Go to Settings > Music > EQ.
Normalize the volume level of your audio: Go to Settings > Music, then turn on Sound Check.


I do not think this is universal, for all sound output!

Thanks, but that’s my problem; no way to adjust for non-Apple music sources, subscription streaming video (HBO etc.), audiobooks, or YouTube.

IIRC, I used an Ambrosia Rogue Amoeba product at one point. Take a look at Soundsource and the ability to insert effects

I’m looking for something that can alter output dynamically in real time*. An after-download, post-processing app doesn’t fill the bill (and Soundsource doesn’t appear to be something that can be used on an iPhone).

*Examples: streaming a movie from Netflix, watching live feed of a sports event, or listening to music via YouTube on my iPhone.

Apple AirPods*, earlier EarPods*; neither with any tone controls.

And other brands of earbuds seem to only offer a “bass booster”, nothing more.

*For me, the most comfortable by far.

I'm not quite sure how any dynamic adjustments to the treble and bass levels of an iPhone’s sound output will be done without post-processing As far as I can tell you are in need of a method to insert a dynamic eq or multiband compressor before final output. Perhaps I'm just not understanding your problem.

I interpret “post-processing” as needing to download the ORIGINAL data source before listening, THEN running it through something to alter its treble and bass as desired, and only then being able to listen at those desired levels.

Examples of what I’m looking for:
- On my car’s radio, while listening to broadcast signals, I have controls that let me adjust treble and bass (and balance as well)
- On my stereo, playing a CD, I can do the same

Neither is altering the ORIGINAL source data, both are modifying only the output to their respective speakers in real-time. I would like to have that same ability with my iPhone’s output.

I guess it's semantics,streamed or playing back from the phone's memory, you still want to route the signal into an effect before analog output.
