The best decade

More importantly, is each decade defined by x1 to [x+]0 or x0 to x9?

saying "the nineties" implies dates that begin with 199_

saying "the eighties" implies dates that begin with 198_

etc...

I came of age in the '80s and am very fond of that decade.

Musically, I think I prefer the '70s over all others.

As a whole, though, I think the '90s gets my vote, for reasons already stated by others as well as some of my own.

Another vote for the '90s

Off the top of my head: yes, there was political rancor, but nowhere near what it is today (even Newt Gingrich & Bill Clinton managed to be able to work together); smoking on airplanes and out in public finally became less of a thing if not outright not allowed, car reliability finally started to be a thing, myself and my peers as young working professionals were easily able to make a decent life for ourselves - even in pricey (and now insanely pricey) coastal San Diego, without internet everywhere 24/7 people actually socialized and interacted with each other...I'm sure there's more, but that's what came immediately to mind for me

For me...

70's best music
80's best socially, met my wife
90's best family, had 2 kids
2020's best financial, mortgage gone, solar installed, paid for.

I'm gonna give it to the 60's. Our country grew up in some incredibly important ways. 1963/4 alone brought revolutionary codification of American justice to a precipice.

can I choose a single day instead of a whole decade?

[spoiler=best day ever]

Except he isn't... yet.

I always felt like I missed out on the 60s, and wanted the chance to experience that decade. A friend and I in junior high wished that we could recreate that decade by just wishing it so.

Some were better for some things, others were better for other things.

I'm going with the 1940s because the clothes were great, the movies were fun, jazz was everywhere, and the economy was on the mend. This assumes that I am white in the 1940s.

Ditto. Also, the attitude of youth was acceptance and love, not the cynicism we have today. Just watch the Woodstock documentary and you will get it. Oh, also, the 1960s culturally lasted from about 1963 until about 1973.
