If a cake is flourless, is that generally considered a good thing for one's health or not?
Thanks!

usually good means no "processed flour", the less processed foods you eat. . .the better.

I've had flourless cake at a Passover Seder before, and in my opinion, you should just pick something else for dessert. It may be better for your health, and Kosher for Passover, but it tastes like cardboard to me. Not that I eat a lot of cardboard. :}

I was going to say that the one I had wasn't chocolate. If you put enough chocolate in just about anything it would be good. But, I would think it would make it less healthy, if that's what you are going for.

true. . .i mean they put a lot of sugar in that stuff. . .
maybe it is more for people who might be allergic to wheat products or for vegans?

Flourless cakes are very dense because they are gluten-free. The best flourless cake is no better than a Duncan Hines cake mix cake made badly, and the worst have the general texture of carpet felt. They are no more healthy for you than a regular cake with flour UNLESS you have a gluten allergy or celiac disease, at which point flourless is the way to go.
Flourless cakes are rather like the poodle dancing on its hind legs--you are very surprised to see it done well, and then, really, you don't need to see it again. |
