Do You Have A Couch Surfing Computer?
#11
One of the best things about converting to OS X from 9 back in the day was how fast X goes to and wakes from sleep. Really encourages couch / deck / kitchen... surfing. Also, the battery seems to last forever while asleep, so I've been known to just put the Piz to sleep when going out of town, rather than actually shutting down. Just let it sleep in the backpack/sleeve.

Those of you that never had to deal with 9 on a laptop may not appreciate it. 10-15 seconds doesn't seem like a long time, until you are just sitting there, staring at the damn thing waiting for it to wake up. This was a huge contribution to enjoyment of my Pismo.

Forgot about that...oooohhhh.

I used to have a G3 700mhz iBook, but I found it painfully slow in OS X. How are the new G4s?

I'll vote for my oldie (late '99) original model iBook (300 big boss mHz) as the prince of couch surfin' machines. For one thing, its less-grippy bottom surface combined w/its weight and wide footprint, make it particularly stable when perched on the arm of even a slippery couch, chair, etc. In the rare event it gets knocked off that perch... no problem. Practically bomb-proof.

Its large sloped deck surfaces are mucho comfortable for the surfing hand (serves as built-in wrist rest for support) and far more ergonomic than current mac books. And it Feels good to the touch. (1st gen clamshell only; later models used diff deck/kb plastic, neither as elegant in look or feel as the translucent original's.)

TV remote, pencil, etc can safely rest nestled in the slightly concave deck surface above the keyboard. Its jelly-color aqua Blueberry color steers ones mind to simple, child-like thoughts. And its un-hurried performance (10.3.9) promotes a general calm and slothful state appropriate to said cushy cushioned platform.

I rest my case.

I have TWO-
my G4 12" iBook
my Dell Inspiron that I have to use for work

I work from home so both have a spot on the end table next to the couch. I also have my trusty Sawtooth, but that thing is way too heavy for either the end table or the couch. Smile

iBook G3 600 with an airport card but about 20 minutes of battery, so it has to be constantly plugged in.

I gave my brother my 400Mhz Pismo running on 10.4.3. He loves it. It's his first Mac!

I haven't updated my S/O's G3 500MHz iBook yet. It's running fabulously on 10.3.9. I just might leave it alone.

A 17" AlBook that mainly stays in the kitchen. Not much couch surfing with a 19 month-old running around.

Before that it was a Pismo. Until Pron stole it.
