"Lost" via iTms
#1
I consulted with my accounting department and determined that I was able to risk the $1.99 to download the 1st episode of Lost season 2.

No trouble downloading-- about 210 MB, took maybe 10 minutes (the bottleneck was on the Apple end since I was able to surf at seemingly normal speeds concurrently).

Burned the file to a CD via Toast, and put it on my laptop hard drive.

Sound is smooth but video hitches continually no matter what I try-- 3 seconds of action, freeze for 5 seconds, repeat. Tried a tiny tiny window even-- same deal.

It's an iBook G3/900 w/ 256 of RAM, OS 10.3.9, playing in iTunes 6.02.

Anything obvious here about what could be causing the problem?

Thx . . .

Copy to your hard drive and play. The CD drive isn't fast enough for video.

STUPID ME: you already copied it to the HDD.

...and let us know if it works.

I don't think the G3 iBooks can handle the video decoding. My wife's G3 800 has the same problem. Everything works fine on my G4 800.

I edited my post because he'd already said he copied it to the HDD. Nothing has actually been suggested yet.

JJ is correct, G3 doesn't have AltiVec, i.e. the VelocityEngine.
I am amazed it plays at all.

Well, that sucks.
Think I'll do any better on a cube/450?
My "real" mac has no way to do anything but sit at it and I can't sit 'cuz of a back problem.
This is the first real life situation I've encountered that suggests there's any reason to upgrade to a G4 iBook.

(PS any chance we could all make some sort of mental note to read a post before replying? Literally half the respondents here apparently didn't).
