Hi I have been putting files onto external hard drive. I want to delete files on internal hd. (I only have mbs left on internal hd.) I'm afraid to delete from internal. I'm worried that somehow, for some reason, I will loose my precious files. Any suggestions?

Burner not working right.
I have 160gb external hd. My mac gives me the start up disk almost full message. Is my mac supposed to recognise external drive as available space?

Ummm...does your external drive show up on the desktop? If so, then your mac should show the available space on that drive.
The MacOS will not include the external and internal drives into a large cluster of drives...some variants of unix will do this, but not OSX.

Better do it soon....
Once your virtual memory goes to hell, even DiskWarrior may not be able to fix your directory.
I've had Jaguar as low as 300mb on the Pismo, but that was because the drive was only 5.5GB formatted, and I had a massive download taking place.
I got lucky.
Others here, without the drive space issues, have run into overlapping files, that is a nightmare - and IF you can fix it, can take 7 days of running, non-stop, to do so.

Yes external shows on desktop.
Hers whats kickin me, I've copied approx. 20 gigs to external, and I want to delete those files from internal but how do I know if the copied files are complete?
Your saying burners are cheap? Will Apple store intall it for me (if I purchase there)?
Thanks again

You are PLAYING WITH FIRE having so little free space on your boot drive.
Either MOVE all the non-system, non-app CRAP you have on that drive OFF, or be prepared to see a service tech REAL SOON.
Your choice.

It's possible your burner is not working right because there is no free space on your HD. Your burner needs space to put scratch files on your HD before it can burn.
