Canon PIXMA MP800
#1
Costco has a decent price on this all-in-one printer - and I was wondering if anyone here has one, or has an informed opinion on this printer.

Thanks.

The only problem with the newer Canon Printers is that they used chipped cartridges so you can't buy generic. If you want a Canon AIO that still can use the generic carts, check out the Canon MP780. Fry's has it advertised for $150 AR in store. Staples also carried it, but they have been closing them out, so they are hard to find. Amazon has it listed, but at a much higher price than Fry's, if you have a Fry's nearby. Here's the link. The generic ink is a whole lot cheaper.

i have the 780 and the 750 -- if you STF for "780" you should see my opinion on it

not sure what print engine the 800 has, but its missing a lot of the features of the 780 and its replacement, the 830

the only thing the 800 has is slide scanning

I have been looking at getting the MP830 (same as MP800 but adds fax, auto doc feeder, subtracts slide/film scanning). Several generic cartridge vendors indicate that they are "working on" replacement cartridges but don't have them yet since this line of cartridges is brand new. My understanding is that epson has had "chipped" cartridges for a while and that those are all available as generics, so I don't think this is a problem for the Canons.
