Parents! Hide the canned air!
#1
I didn't find anything to indicate this had been posted before. The 14 year old inhaled it and died. I am familiar with "huffing", but I'd never thought of canned air as falling in the same category. Using it to get high is being called "dusting", and it can paralyze the user.

I know it sounds callous... but there IS something to be said for improving the gene pool.

Sometimes the herd needs to be thinned. Hopefully the kids stupid enough to do this haven't reproduced yet.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's been posted. It's news to plenty of people & spreading the word could save a life.

Parents?

New story or not, a 14-year-old kid knows what they are doing,
and doing something like this (or huffing) is extremely stupid.

It may as well be one of those "Darwin Awards".

The article I linked was a death that happened in Oregon early this week, not the boy from Cleveland a couple of years ago. I'd missed that one totally.

[quote Paul F.]I know it sounds callous... but there IS something to be said for improving the gene pool.
Sounds? No, actually, it IS callous.

Consider two people:
One who, at age 14, thought "canned air" was canned air
One who shrugs off the needless death of a child in some half-assed attempt at wit

Guess who I'd rather share the planet with?

A14 year old kid inhaling canned air is doing it to get high.

It's a tragedy when a kid does something stupid that gets themselves killed...

People do a lot of unwise things not always knowing the totality of the consequences. That doesn't mean that "they got what they deserved", and that we should be either glad or grateful they "thinned the heard".

No, we don't want are children to do drugs, yet many of their parents did, or did other equally stupid things. That they survived is not a significant contribution to the "gene pool". That a child dies of a self-inflicted drug overdose does not mean that we've been spared an aberrant future contributor.

There are actually evil children who prey upon and kill other humans. For them, I have no sympathy. A child that makes a stupid mistake, acting without malice, that suffers great injury or death is a profound tragedy.
