No national Republicans attended Tuesday's funeral, including none of the GOP presidential candidates. All said they were too busy.

That is quite a statement. The presidential candidates really want/need the evangelical vote. Jerry had drifted far too close to the lunatic fringe. NONE of them can show up to honor the man who brought these voters right to their doorstep?

Mr. Thompson went out on his terms, as it should be with each individual.

Bitter?

Nope.

Cynical is the word you're looking for, and yes, there is a big difference.

Unhappy? Only near the end as his health was seriously fading.

He was actually a very happy and proud person.
