Still no wireless on the Dell mini

This thing has a Broadcom BCM94312MCG wireless card that I simply can't get to work.

I've searched the forums looking for a fix but have come up empty so far. I'd certainly be willing to get a new card to replace the stock one as long as it will work with Leopard on a Dell mini.

Earlier I swapped the RAM from the Asus (2GB ) with the Dell & it did seem to boot up faster but the solid state drive is no speed demon. I can put the computer to sleep but it's useless after it wakes up, sort of like some people I know.

Any recommendations on a replacement wireless card would be welcome!

Unzip the archive and open Terminal in Leopard on the Dell mini. Type in sudo and drag the bcm43xx_enabler.sh icon to the Terminal window. Press the Enter key, type in your admin password on the keyboard and follow the instructions.

Wow!! You' my hero!! I tried that a couple of times last night but it didn't work. Today it did & I now have wireless on the Dell mini, which I'm posting from now.

Looks like I'll be spending the rest of the day playing on this little thing!

Glad to help! Even netbooks like the wind don't need their cards replaced to use airport anymore.

If you'd be so kind to post the mini's xbench scores I'd appreciate it. I'd guess it's speed is close to that of a fast G3 ibook.

the mini 12 looks like a better overall machine with the larger drive and more screen rez?

Congratulations! I think I'll stay with Linux on my EeePC, but it is good to know that it can be done.

Just got back from a Circuit City that's closing where I found a Case Logic portable DVD player bag that the Dell mini fits in perfectly. Now it has its very own bag to live in.

Good thing Dell Outlet still had some of these things left because the friend's kid ain't getting this one!

The new ones are $299 for the Dell Mini 9 till 5:59 am on 12/10 at Dell; $50 off the regular price. I don't know if this is the model you have or not, but I saw this deal earlier today.

OK the wireless fix is all well and good but more importantly:

Will an Apple sticker fit over the DELL logo on the outside? Smile

Gotta think about yer rep, ya know...

Yeah, I saw that too - $299 for mini 9 with Ubuntu, 512MB RAM, 4GB SSD, and no camera.

Versus a REFURB Mini 9 w/ WinXP Home, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, and 1.3MP Webcam for less than $299...
