On January 20, 2007; there was a thread on Kate Bush "Wuthering Heights". I suggested to roshi to check out the song "Don't Give Up". It was a duet with Kate and Peter Gabriel.

Evidently, Minty was a Peter Gabriel fan.

I got a Minty Gram. He was wondering what album that song was on.

I sent him the info and included the background on the song...

Song Facts:
> Peter had some kind of nervous breakdown in 1985.
> This song is to reward the support he got from his
> family. This album is quite appealing of Peter's
> state of mind : it's a mixture of excessive
> enthusiast songs ("Big Time," "Sledgehammer...")
> and depressive ones ("Don't Give Up," "Mercy
> Street ...") (thanks, Thibaut - Brussels,
> Belgium)
> Gabriel was inspired to write this after seeing a
> TV show about unemployment and family life, and a
> photo of a family in the dust bowl depression.
> Gabriel: "The basic idea is that handling failure
> is one of the hardest things we have to learn to
> do."

I had been through some tough times and I had the support of some very good friends to get through those rough times.

I don't know; maybe I was hoping Minty would find comfort and strength in the song.

Typical Minty...he started worrying about how he was going to get the song into his computer. He thought he had it on vinyl somewhere.

I emailed him the song and explained how to drag and drop it into his iTunes library.

He appreciated it so much.

I knew no matter what; he had a heart of gold.

He will be missed.

Wow. It saddens me to learn of this news. Shocking too, as I didn't know he was really sick. He will be missed for sure. Hopefully he went to a place that has a pair of nice seats behind home plate and away from the overhang.

I hang out here and rarely post, but have always enjoyed seeing the back and forth with Minty and the rest - I'm sure many of us who do not show up much here also will miss him...

Thanks to all of you who have emailed me and/or expressed an interest in contributing to a memorial fund.

A couple quick things:
1. Great minds think alike and most of the suggestions have been for Chicago Cubs Charities or an animal rescue fund. Both are great ideas and I don't see why we can't do both. I'll just split the amount collected.

2. AlphaDog was going to touch base with 'Minty's family for their input

3. I have already spoken with PayPal and they have "authorized" my account for this task. They even sent me a link that I can send to you when we are ready to launch this thing.

4. If you are PayPal adverse, you can definitely send me a check. I promise to forget your name and address as soon I as I get it as long as you promise to do the same. There were no problems at all when we did this for The Lope, so I don't anticipate any now.

Hopefully I can call on the powers that be here to post a new sticky once the details are decided.

Jeeesus Hoho. Just shut up. It's not about you or your favorite charity or bike ride. JUST SHUT UP - FOR A CHANGE!

Crap..I didn't always agree with him but he never made his arguments personal or vicious. A sad day indeed. RIP Minty.

Pull Hoho's pitch for PAWS. Why pull my criticism of his pitch without pulling his crass plug for a favorite charity, one Minty might take exception to. I would.
