McCain to suspend campaigning, wants to delay debate due to financial crisis

I think McCain is probably ill and needs some time off. I doubt that he'll take much part in the Congressional hearings or negotiations other than for a quick show.

This is the foundation for my (tentative) conclusion.

1. He has been avoiding the press almost as much as his veep-pick lately. He went 41 days between press conferences. That's the longest he's gone without speaking to the press in decades. That's out of character and suggests that something's seriously wrong.

2. Several Congressmen have come forward to say that McCain has not participated at all in any of the negotiations over the bailout. That he would go from zero interaction to full-commitment is very strange and suggests that some new factor came into play in the last day or so. (I don't think Obama's phone call is sufficient prodding to justify this big a leap.)

3. He's worn much more face-makeup than usual during recent appearances. What is he hiding? A new cancer-lesion? A face that's pale with pain?

4. Reports suggest that he could only commit an hour or so each day this week to prepping for the debate. Either he's got a lousy scheduling clerk or something else supervened and kept him from work. I don't think he hires incompetent staffers.

5. He's aged and has a history of ailments and absenteeism.

I wonder what we'd find if we canvassed DC-area hospitals for tell-tale black SUV's and black or blue choppers this week.

I thought when McCain made his statement today, his face looked odd. Just an observation. One eye appeared larger than the other. He didn't have much makeup on and looked very worn. He is old.

Of course, Obama doesn't want to touch this thing with a ten foot pole. He (and Dodd and Frank et all) are all so deep in doo-doo over their financial "interests". Now with the FBI investigating the movers and shakers (among them some Obama's advisors who headed up Fannie Mae) Obama is avoiding Washington like the plague. I can't wait to see what the FBI comes up with.

hey swampy, being an apologist for the failed policies of bush/mccain/rove, i know how u don't want facts to get into the way of your rantings but...

...national papers are reporting that mccain's campaign manager, rick davis, was on the freddie mac payroll. the mccain campaign had to back track after saying no one on their staff was involved.

funny how facts keep getting in the way of mccain.

he is no reformer
he is no supporter of alternative energy
he is no friend of the veterans
he is no friend to a union worker

he is a washington insider of privilege and access
he is a lifetime politician
he is someone who is willing to use his wife's money and a republican contacts to build his career
he is someone with reckless judgement

those are facts he can't run from.

be well

I said the same thing as Gutenberg. McCain is pitifully out of touch if he has to physically return to DC to talk to Congress people.

The president cannot ask the rest of the world to stop turning because he is handling a crisis of some sort. McCain is proving that he hasn't got what it takes to handle the job.

I haven't seen any Obama ads. I live in a state where the outcome is a foregone conclusion and neither candidate is spending any money here. So sorry.

For what it's worth, I haven't heard any ad that mirror what you wrote, either. Offering virtual alternatives to zipping around the country may not be ideal, but it seems reasonable.

Wait, the real President is making a speech this evening to the American people about the financial crisis. McCain can go to the debate. All is well

Your point is interesting, Mac. Obama's handlers aren't letting him talk much to the press much either though--it's as if the chiefs of staff on both sides said, ok, you won the primary, now shut up. I don't think the strategy is very effective.

Yes, and his face is speckled with liver-spots. See any in that picture?

That he's wearing so much makeup and still looks infirm goes to my point.

As does the fact that he took no questions from the press at his announcement today.

I think he's seriously ill.

I just saw the picture that kanesa posted. He looks like he's been up all night, that's for sure, and he looks like he has lost some weight.

I never said the Republicans were lily white, but the _facts_ point 2 fingers of guilt at Dems over 1 at Reps.

Obama=just another Chicago politician.
