GAINSAVERS LONG BEACH - ANY PROBLEMS?
#1
ANYONE HAVE A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH GAINSAVBERS THE REFURBISHED COMPUTER STORE ON LINE?
I HAVE: DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

SUMMARY:
Business web site: www.gainsavers.com
business owner/contact: steve harper
Product purchased 9/30-08
invoice# 18004
Order Sub Total : $1,059.32
Shipping 1-3 day extra charge Total over $1100.
product purchased-this description from web site:
Macbook 13.3" 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo Black - Apple Computer MA472LL/A

1st problem: Wrong system software preloaded.
When this was discovered--After taking product to an authorized Apple Store, was told that what we received was not ordered. Product received is not what was advertised or what we paid for.. Unable to use product. Operating system Software shipped (Leopard 10.5) not what ordered (Tiger 10.4.11). Can’t use my existing software with Leopard system.

2nd problem: The product shipped had fraudulent Manufacturing date of April 1978. Apple was not in business then. The product also had notation that Apple Care warranty not to be given. This apparent fraudulent date was discovered by authorized Apple. Was told that the machine was probably stolen and that only a Apple Corporate employee could change the manufacturing date. Apple Corp received my complaint and is investigating.

3rd problem: unauthorized debit from bank credit card. Wanted to pay by certified bank check since origonal credit card had Puerto Rico billing address that Gainsaver could not use. Gainsaver then proceeded to charge another credit card I have with stateside address not waiting for vertified check to be received to facilitate shipping.

4th problem: Gainsaver refuses to refund actual cash back to me or pay for the return of the computer or reimburse me for initial shipping. Only want to give a store credit.

I have a witness to this fraudulent manufacturing date and lack of tiger software:
Apple Store technician
Jeffrey Ngo
Apple Store
North Shore Shopping Center
210 andover street suite w145
Peabody Mass

FROM THEIR WEB SITE OF WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL SHIP AND DO
Product Includes: Computer, battery, AC adapter and power cord, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and iLife installed on hard drive.
Your Credit Card is not charged until we ship your order

In short--have you had a similar experience?

First post and it's a tirade against an online seller in mock-question form.

I think that's highly inappropriate.

You should build a relationship by establishing yourself with a history on a forum before you ask members to trust that you do not have an illicit motive for a post like that.

BTW: Great thread on MacRumors. Very entertaining. 'Would have turned up if the OP had done any Googling.

Hey look---just trying to see if my experience is unusual that's all..this company deals in macs...this site is about macs...so can my post be inappropriate? no iam asking about a "mac source" ie Gainsavers.

This is a "tip" to watch out for unscrupulous mac dealers that's all..I think it is highly appropriate and on topic as a "tip." :-)

nicely meant.

While your desire to inform us may be well-intended, I think you went about doing it wrong.

Imagine going to a social gathering and shouting "Dave sucks!" and then leaving.

It's disruptive and insulting to your hosts.

Hang out and socialize before you proselytize.

...and learn to use Google. You'd have been well-informed about that company with nothing more than a search for their name. They have some notoriety.

Search for "company name" and "scam" on Google produces lots of results? Check!

Those two items alone generally mean you should avoid the company unless you are really desperate.
