If it's true, then maybe they'll start discounting some of the computers in time for January again to boost their numbers. Sounds good for me since I might be purchasing a MacBook Pro in the new year. Also, I already have a pretty cool iPod Nano that has sentimental value so I won't get rid of it until it breaks. I would love to have touchscreen web surfing though and think I might pick up a Samsung Instinct from Sprint next summer after all the bugs are worked out.

Apple DID discount their computers. Black Friday sale.
And iPods. Ditto. Is Apple Doooooooomed ? No. But is the recession affecting them ? You betcha. Expect people to buy less ipods this xmas. However, I've done my part by buying three of them, on clearance at Sam's club. A prior gen Nano, a current gen nano, and a current gen Classic. Which replaced two 4g iPods and a dead 1st gen shuffle.

I would like a touch for the wifi, and as an upgrade to my 20 gig ipod. But 8 gigs or 16 gigs is clearly too small, and 32 gigs is way too expensive. So right now I think the touch is sort of squeezed by the price and size limits of flash memory. Once flash catches up and I can get a 32 gig or bigger itouch, there will be a much stronger incentive to upgrade for all of those of us already with an ipod.

64 GB Touch FTW!

iPod growth will be slower - but there's still plenty of demand for the iPod nano and iPod Touch at Christmas time. I speak from personal experience!

If the iPod is in trouble, it's because they seem to be running out of them to sell. AppleInsider reports shortages of iPods spreading.
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/...ading.html Take it with a grain of salt though - the clueless Shaw Wu is quoted in the article.

I don't think the article is negative or doom an gloom at all. It's just stating the obvious. Apple has done an amazing job of refining and morphing the iPod to make upgrades and replacements attractive, but that doesn't mean that most folks are going to buy for the sake of buying.

I think as more people see/use a Touch they will be compelled to upgrade. For most, 16 or 32 gig is probably sufficient. They will want the touch for the larger screen and the ability to play games, surf the web, etc. At least, that's what I've seen among those that I work with.
