Environmental activist gives new meaning to "working within the system"

We have a single highway running north and south through the county. It is the main (6 lane) thoroughfare. Malls, strip malls, 40+ traffic lights in a 20 mile stretch, lots of 18 wheel traffic and in general a real mess. We need a by-pass disparately.

So, your community does a crappy job with planning, generally let the developers have free rein to build whatever wherever with apparently no public input, and now you complain about the mess and want to fix it by building a road through the middle of a state park. Typical bonehead short sighted conservative rationale. Fix your own mess and leave the public commons alone.

So what did he accomplish exactly?

If you really want to know you can always read past the first two sentences of the article. I appreciate his sacrifice.
So what did he accomplish exactly?
It's in the article, really, I swear.
See the part about holding up the parcels until Obama takes office.
Plus, it turned something most of us weren't aware of (except you of course) into something we are aware of by being newsworthy.
Surely in your world there are people you admire for sacrficing for their causes, even if the results are incremental?
Bet he drove to the auction! He is itching to sacrifice? Take away his car. He'll forget the urge quick.

If you had actually read my post, you will note that I said "There is an ideal route on the west side of town that borders a state park". BORDERS A STATE PARK.

The county bought the right of way years ago.

Nobody's been short sighted and it was Democrats that purchased the right of way with a by pass in mind. No conservative rational involved.

Wake me up when you learn to read.

I'm sure he's in desperate need of a good lawyer now...

As he is clearly aware, which you would know if your attention span allowed you to read more than a sentence or two at a time.

'fil: sock puppet check . . .
Wrong - unlike you, I only have one nick here.

This part is true at least.

Is that supposed to bother me? Weren't you the one complaining about personal attacks on the part of others?

BL, you were sort of treating him like he's stupid, and I don't think the answer to his question was actually that simple. I haven't seen him complain about personal attacks, fwiw. kj.

Oh come on kj, the question was completely answered in the article.
If you're going to take sides at least stop pretending you're not-- that's freakin' annoying. And accusing others of being superior while being superiority king yourself is worse.

>>>Oh come on kj, the question was completely answered in the article.

I'm solidly on the side of preservation, conservation, etc. So I'm not on Dakota's or Swampy's side in that respect.

I never said you were being superior, but you sure as heck are treating him like he's stupid. Do you really expect him not to retaliate? Me feel superior? That's a laugh, but I guess our personalities don't always come through real well in a forum like this.

As I already said, the only thing the article says he accomplished was that he drove the prices of the land artificially higher. That doesn't change the fact that they're going to develop the land. They're hanging on to the land even though they paid too much, because they're afraid they won't get a chance to buy it again after Obama takes office. Awareness, smawareness. In this case, no one's going to do anything about it, aware or not. kj.
