What is the deal with these things?
If you have a vanity plate whose meaning is private or obscure, doesn't that kind of defeat the whole "vanity" aspect?

I like having a vanity plate. It was too expensive to justify previously, but when I last moved I discovered that they were cheap in my new location.
I got one that has several layers of meaning so even really dumb people should be able to work out something from it.
Plus, it makes it that much easier to find my car in a parking lot.

My wife and I just traded cars with each other and I've been told in no uncertain terms that she wants her vanity plate back.
It's hers and only she can have it..
whatever, it's a license plate as far as I care.

In Washington State, all the proceedes go to fish and wildlife conservation. Consider it a donation of sorts.

They are dirt cheap in Virginia. Every fifth plate is a vanity plate up there.

In Colorado it's $25, which isn't bad. The catch is it's an additional $25 a year for registration too!
That's where they get you, otherwise I probably would have vanity plates.

privacy and/or obscurity might be a good thing
especially if dangling bulls balls are included
