any medicine to reduce coughing? is Codeine over the counter is US?

I have a cough in the evening, and the first chance to see my doctor is on (Cyber) Monday. I called them on Wednesday but they were booked and short day. anyway.... if it gets really bad I could go to an urgent care place tomorrow. not ER.

But is there some good medicine to reduce coughing? anything over the counter with Codeine? I thought I would ask here rather than get some suspicious looks and I ask at CVS tomorrow.
