Quicktime Problem (no audio, but video looks great)

Try Streamclip first. It's a free app. If it plays, you can trim it right there and export the file in a variety of formats.

For VisualHub:

Click the "Advanced" button to bring up the custom settings window. In the video section look at the popup menu for Extra FFmpeg Flags. In there put -vcodec copy (or choose the passthrough setting from the popup)

As for which overall preset to use for editing later in Quicktime, probably MPEG (checkmark MPEG2). Dunno if also selecting one of the profiles would help. You may be in for some experimentation here.

OR

You might just take your original recording at toss it into Handbrake. The resulting H.264 and later work by QT will all take longer this way and create an additional transcode but if VH craps out on you, you might not have too many other choices …
