Need help identifying an iBook...

Over time, the heat/cool cycles of the computer warming up during use and cooling off when not in use would crack the solder.

I'd bet that physical abuse was a bigger cause of failure of a cold solder joint.

Many, many MANY people seem to want to carry a 'Book (or laptop) by the left front corner of the 'Book. This stresses/stressed the case causing it to flex and the upper portion to rub the chip, straining the solder joints. Eventually they fail and calamity ensues.

Other video failures have been caused by a bad ribbon cable from the logic board to the display.

My G3 is still running strong, though on its second battery and AC adapter.

It's lonely at the top.
