The hands off approach to controlling the health care companies has gotten us into this mess -- that is what happening now and it is broken (in other words, that is doing nothing so that does not count as a solution).
I think that the public option scares the hell out of the companies in that they cannot get away with what they are doing. If people had a real choice (not the BS choices that some say are present now) I think that rates would go down and quality will go up.
Dakota, I am all for making money (I am not doing my gig now for charity) and people form these companies to make a profit. Yet, there is something inherently wrong when people are are paying more and more into these organizations and getting less, while going broke when they actually do make a claim. Are you not seeing that happening? A simple yes or no will suffice.
I don't think nationalization is the answer, as there is plenty of room for privatization, yet there needs to be REAL pressure on them to keep them honest (which is not currently the case). Some in the debate have resisted change only for the fact that they are mouthpieces for those making absurd profits. I say that they, and those who fund them, can shove it.
Back to my point, what can be done? Status quo is not working...
