best way to combat spyware on windows computers?

I'm using the symantic endpoint protection as well. I've got Windows 7, IE 8, and symantic. My kids have restricted accounts and so far we've been ok.

Many people I know have been infected with the AntiVirus 2009, etc and those are a pain to get off, but it can be done. Mostly they were infected b/c they were using IE 7 and did not have the proper windows updates installed.
