I cleaned up behind the washer, (there were a few detergent caps that obstructed the view) and saw that the big square plastic tray (drip pan) the washer sits in is also connected to a white PVC drain pipe.
I bet the AC drain and washer drain merge and then the pipe clogged, thus both flooded at the same time. They are at the same level, and now the conspiracy theory makes sense.
If you think about it.... the change that both clog at the same time is slim, very slim... unless they have a common drain
So who do I call now? a plumber (to unclog the drain) or an AC guy and tell him to unclog the AC drain (which in fact might unclog the washer also?).
Any chance that the washer isn't leaking after all, and the AC run-off is backing up into the washer drip pan? Might save the cost of a new washer.
